VIRBAC IN CATTLE

Towards more sustainable
cattle farming

Preserving health and welfare of animals while facing today’s challenges

At Virbac, we work with cattle producers and veterinarians to optimize farm performance while respecting the delicate human-animal-environment balance. Our approach is adapted to the needs and constraints of different types of livestock throughout the world and is based on :

  • vaccination and micronutrition to increase the resistance and resilience of animals
  • prudent use and alternatives to antibiotisr
  • herd management protocols, services to monitor health, performance and traceability.

SHAPING THE FUTURE OF CATTLE HEALTH TOGETHER

Because we acknowledge cattle farming as a strength and essential in sustainable agriculture, we want to provide cross-sectional solutions to support it. Our mission is to take care of cattle and the industry stakeholders with quality, practical and economic offers along six axes.

Vaccination

Financial

Protecting cattle involves anticipating the health events they may face. Vaccination helps fight infectious diseases and stimulate the immune system by reducing:
- the risk of developing diseases
- subsequent suffering
- contamination of other animals, sometimes humans
- economic losses related to the disease.

Time

To support the natural processes of the organism thanks to the contribution of trace elements: this is the objective of micronutrition. Zinc, copper, manganese, selenium and phosphorus in particular, are the components of a wide variety of enzymes that promote:

  • reproduction
  • growth
  • production
  • metabolism.

Calf Care Solutions

To fight against the dominant pathologies in breeding, in particular respiratory diseases and neonatal enteritis, we propose global management of the health of the calf which integrates:

  • diagnostic tools
  • prevention (antiparasitics, vaccines)
  • and care (rehydration, antibiotics...).

Vaccination

Colostrum is the first line of immune defense in newborn calves. To cope with the various diseases that the calf will encounter as it ages, vaccination is the best way.

Trace minerals are very important for optimal immune function in cattle. They play a fundamental role in the activity of immune cells and production of antibodies, that occur after a vaccination. When an animal has an adequate trace minerals status, its immune system will respond to vaccination optimaly. Otherwise, the animal will draw on its stores to meet several competing needs, and it will not be able to produce an effective and optimal vaccine response or respond adequately to a booster dose.
